The University of Kentucky’s Office of Economic Development and Real Estate (ED&RE) advances the university’s land-grant mission by executing economic growth programs and strategically managing UK’s off-campus real estate portfolio, including the university’s premier innovation spaces: Coldstream, ASTeCC, and an emerging Innovation District. As the hub for connecting campus, community, and industry, ED&RE works to create opportunities that strengthen Kentucky’s workforce, investment, and improve quality of life across the Commonwealth.
ED&RE is made up of six units that work together to achieve this mission. The Office of Business Engagement serves as the front door to the university for companies interested in collaborating with UK. Coldstream Research Campus provides a premier location for innovative businesses and is home to more than 50 organizations and 2,250 employees across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, equine health, and other sectors. Real Estate Services manages the university’s property transactions and long-term acquisition strategy. The Advanced Science and Technology Commercialization Center (ASTeCC) nurtures startup companies and supports faculty research with commercialization potential. Economic Engagement integrates Kentucky-based businesses into the UK supply chain, keeping economic benefits close to home. Finally, the Economic Development Collaborative brings together campus and community leaders to proactively grow economic prosperity in the Commonwealth.
Together, these efforts help build a stronger Kentucky—supporting businesses, empowering communities, and ensuring that UK students and graduates have access to more opportunities, stronger career pathways, and a brighter future.
